Standard 2 Teachers

There will be a COE Standard 2 Exhibits  meeting, Wednesday, October 1 in the Media Center, at 8:15 am.  This meeting will review the required Program exhibits.

To give you a heads up  we will be needing your completed (filled out with dates, competencies/student performance standards checked off, signatures, etc. etc.) Student Training Records for the 2007-08 school year.  Please be advised, the visiting team may also ask to see your 2006-07 training records and most certainly will ask to see your current 2008-09 training record.

The visiting team leader will be here in 4 months and the team in 5 months.  The time to have everything ready is NOW.  A program that fails a COE review is almost assured to be closed down.  You have nothing to worry about if your program documents (training records, progress reports, attendance ) are up--to-date, supplements have been turned in and have been attending the exhibits meeting.

Other things to do:

  • Each Program needs to have an area in their classroom and/or lab dedicated to research materials (books, magazines, tapes, CD’s ) related to your program – remember our media center no longer fills this requirement.
  • Visitation Log (in your MAPS book)   You should have a visitation log (You should have  3-4 years of visitation logs unless your program just started).  You must make contact with a minimum of two new business/industry members per year.  These visits could be to see new equipment, talk to employers for intern/externships or other work experience activities, looking for donations, or to see if they want to participate as a member on your advisory committee.
  • Broken or unused equipment – remove it from your classroom, see Dr. Newman about this.
  • Paperwork is up-to-date – Progress Reports, Attendance records, Training Records and student WORK EXPERIENCE (Externships/internships) paperwork is filled out by the student – contract/agreement, employer – timesheets/cards, evaluations, etc.  and teacher – competencies student will learn on the job, teacher visitations, etc.  This packet should be in the student’s folder.  If you stated in your program supplement that your students participate in Work Related Activities, they will want to see the “proof” that this is being done.
  • Advisory meetings –   51%+ membership at meetings, at least 3 members in field, advisory meetings that include multiple programs must ensure you have representatives from each area.  You must address and include in your minutes, that you discussed with your advisory members, the type of instruction offered in the program, and that students are provided with sufficient opportunities to practice and gain competency with specific skills required for successful completion of the program.

Are records indicate that you were not in attendance for the required September 3rd  Admissions and Recruitment Exhibits meeting.   You will need to make an appointment and stop by the Curriculum Department to go over the first 9 exhibits. (Admissions and Requirements).  I am available most mornings and I am here at 8:00 am.
