Admission Policies and Procedures

Adult students must be 16 years of age or older and withdrawn from their high school to be admitted to a career and technical center.  Reasonable accommodations can be made for special needs students.  One of the goals of Admissions is to provide each individual student with the necessary information and counseling to make realistic educational and career choices. Services include career information, counseling, financial assistance and registration information.
Office Hours:

Monday -Thursday - 8:15 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Friday - 8:15   a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

American’s with Disabilities Act

All Career and Technical Centers comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which protects United States citizens who possess physical or mental disabilities. All centers comply with Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1973 which states that “no otherwise qualified handicapped individual in the United States shall, solely by reason of his/her handicap, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefit of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.”

Application and Tuition

A nonrefundable $25 one time application fee is assessed for every full-time or part-time certificate career education program; a nonrefundable annual $15 application fee is assessed for adult students enrolling in any category of Adult General Education classes. The fee is nontransferable between tech centers and must be paid prior to the student taking the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and completing the registration process.
Tuition fees are charged for certificate career education classes and for Adult General Education (AGE) classes taken by students who already have a high school diploma/GED and score 9.0 or above on the TABE. There is no tuition fee for resident students enrolled in Adult English For Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes who have basic academic skills at or below the eighth-grade level not pay tuition or lab fees but may be required to purchase program related items. Students pursuant to State Board Rule. Dual Enrollment students (high school students who take electives at a career and technical center while obtaining the required academic courses at their high school)  without a high school diploma are not charged a tuition fee for basic education classes.
Students with an I-20 visa pay nonresident fees for ESOL and Adult Basic Education classes.
Tuition and fees are regulated by the state legislature and approved by the School Board of Orange County, Florida. Costs are subject to change in accordance with legislative action.

Articulation with High Schools and Community Colleges

Articulation agreements with high schools and community colleges provide credit for competencies completed in many training programs. Instructors, guidance counselors and career and technical education specialists can provide additional information or visit www.ocps.net. Click “Career and Technical Education,” then “College Credit.”

Attendance Policy

Westside Tech encourages and expects all students enrolled in programs to attend regularly, to derive maximum benefit from the instructional program, and to develop habits of punctuality, self discipline and responsibility. Students are expected to telephone the instructor when absent according to departmental policy. A student is expected to be in attendance at least 90% of scheduled hours of attendance. Attendance requirements in programs that lead to board licensure may be more strict which takes precedence over the district wide Career and Technical Education attendance policy.
