Electrical Apprenticeship and Training
(FEAT)
The
Florida Electrical Apprenticeship
and Training program is a structured method of training
persons to become skilled electricians. Apprenticeship is a two-part
program. One part of the training is working for an electrical
contractor, where the student gain hands-on knowledge to be able
to perform the tasks required. The other part of the training
is the classroom instruction that teaches the technical aspects
of the trade.
The FEAT
Program is registered with the Florida Department of Labor and
Employment Security. If a student has received partial credit
from another Registered Apprenticeship Program, he or she will
be credited with work hours already earned and placed in school
at an advanced level.
OurApprentices
require seven semesters of theory training and 8000 hours (4 years)
of on-the-job training. Classes are held two nights each week
from 6:30 to 9:30 P.M. Apprentices attend two semesters of classroom
training each year.
Students
interested in becoming an apprentice would need to talk to their
employer and determine if they participate in the FEAT
apprenticeship program. When an employer agrees to sponsor a student
in Apprenticeship, they are responsible for the semester tuition
payment. New apprentices may apply to start the program in August
or January of each year. The minimum age to enter the program
is 18. There is no maximum age.
