Students
enrolled in this program will be prepared
for employment as restaurant cooks. This
1500 clock hour program will provide both
academic and hands-on experience in the
areas of Commercial Foods and Culinary
Arts. These activities provide instruction
in the use of
tools, equipment, materials and processes
found in the industry.
Upon
completion of the program students will be trained in all levels
of Commercial Foods from working as a salad preparer and bus person
through the highly technical area of being a pastry chef. Students
will periodically prepare lunches for the student body. Hands-on
experience is also gained in the proper method of serving and
setting up banquets and buffets as students practice their craft
catering advisory committee meetings and special occasions such
as the Annual Day of Beauty Scholarship Fundraiser.
SkillsUSA
(formerly known as Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, VICA)
is also an integral part of the program. Students participate
in regional and state competitions in food preparation and business
and leadership skills (Link to SkillsUSA?)
The
program is open to adults and Orange County high school students.
